Art and fashion share a passion for visuals and beauty, and when they mix together magic happens! Check out the spots where we think they get together in the most interesting ways.
I visited Palazzo Morando to see an exhibition focused on Manolo Blahnik and his career (which is no longer exhibited), but I was pleasantly surprised by this beautiful “Milanese” palace. Indeed, it represents an unmatched opportunity to learn more about the history of the city of Milano from different perspectives.
From 2010 it hosts the “Collezione di moda e costume di Milano” or “The collection of fashion and costumes of Milan”: in the palace rooms you’ll find costumes and historical clothing which rotate periodically. It also houses many paintings which represent the history of the city of Milan and additionally offers the possibility to walk through a real eighteenth century noble house. Palazzo Morando is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm. The discount ticket for university students is 3€, otherwise it is 5€. Just like the GAM (since they are both part of the “Musei Civici” of Milan) it also gives the possibility to enter with free admission: every day one hour before closing and every Tuesday from 2 pm. This one is for the real fashionistas who want to discover the journey of one of the finest Italian designers: Giorgio Armani. This old warehouse for cereals was turned into a beautiful and modern space to host some of the most iconic works of the designer from 1980 to today. The visuals are very modern and full of colors and the clothes are grouped according to specific themes: the result is absolutely stunning. There’s also a very interesting digital archive with beautiful sketches and pictures.
So even if he whines, bring the boyfriend along! Armani Silos is open Wednesday to Sunday from 9 am to 6:30pm. The ticket is 6€ for students, the full one is 12€. Tickets are available here : https://www.armanisilos.com/en_WW/shop - to get the discounted price you need to show a valid ID/badge at the museum location.
Until January 28th you can admire the beauty of 24 stage costumes of Teatro alla Scala at Palazzo Reale. The pieces represent the history of the Theatre from the 1930s to today and videos behind them portray some great performances.
Some of the pieces were made by iconic designers such as Gianni Versace and Karl Lagerfeld and worn by stars like Maria Callas and Carla Fracci. The setting and the venue are absolutely stunning and so are the costumes. It’s free entry: if you are passionate about fashion you cannot miss it! The exhibition is open on Mondays from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm, on Thursday and Saturday from 9:30 am to 10.30 pm and on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 9:30 am to 8 pm.
